What is Church membership? Is it baptism? -
Supporting a parish financially? - Going to Church on Sunday? It is all of these
and more. It is our active commitment to our belief in God and the
acknowledgement of Christ in our way of life.
Baptism, the introduction into the faith, soon loses it's personal validity if
the vows made at the baptismal font are not carried out in everyday life.
Baptism gives us the right to be Christian. One must be baptized and participate
regularly and conscientiously in the liturgical life, the worship and the work
of the Church.
CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP: Everyone's responsibility
"Upon the first day of the week let everyone of you lay by him in store, as God
hath prospered Him." I Corinthians 16:2
St. Paul speaks not only to first century Christians but to twentieth century
Christians as well. He encourages us to set aside for the work of the Church
some portion of our income in proportion to God's blessings bestowed upon us.
This concept of Christian giving is the very essence of Church support. Each of
us should return to the Lord a portion of our blessings so that the Church may
continue to grow and provide a spiritual haven for the faithful. This concept,
known as Christian Stewardship, is the primary means of support at our
Assumption Church.
A Church is not mortar and bricks but rather a
meeting place for the faithful to gather together and drink from the cup of
Life. Christ said, "...Whoever drinks from the water that I shall give him will
become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14).
Our desire at Koimisis is to provide such a spring of water so that the faithful
who are part of our beloved Church family may experience the joy of Jesus Christ
and the promised blessings. Your help as a Christian Steward is critical. Your
devotion to our Savior and the financial support of His Church, help the
Assumption Parish to actively support the mission of Christ's Church.
If you have any questions concerning the Stewardship program, please contact the
Church office or Father Peter. Stewardship is your personal commitment.
